Tamworth Sexual Assault Service

Sexual Assault Services specialise in working with children, adolescents and adults who have been sexually abused and their non-offending family members. Crisis and ongoing counselling, court preparation and support.


Geographical Area

Based in Tamworth with outreach services provided as required to Barraba, Manilla, Nundle and Walcha.


Referral Eligibility Criteria

Children and Young People (and non-offending family members): are eligible for service following JIRT Police/Community Services investigation/risk assessment with substantiation or “formed belief” of sexual harm. Children under 10 with sexualised behaviours, who have been sexually abused. Adults: any adult who has experiences SA and non-offending significant other.


Referral Exclusion Criteria

A child/young person where there is no substantiation or “formed belief”; counselling is not provided to people who have sexually abused a child, young person or adult.


Referrals Accepted from and how

Self-Referral; GP; Other Medical Specialists; Other HNE Clinicians; Other Healthcare providers (ext. to HNE); Joint Investigation Response Team (JIRT); JIRT Referral Unit (JRU); Family & Community Services (CS); Police; Probation & Parole; Juvenile Justice; NGOs via phone or Sexual Assault Service referral form.
