Youth Engagement Service

The Youth Engagement Service (YES) will work proactively with children and their families to ensure that the appropriate services and supports that are required for their wellbeing are wrapped around them in a connective and supportive way.

Young people for a variety of reasons can miss out on the care they need or experience difficulties accessing the right type of help at the right time. The Youth Engagement Service will connect with these young people to support them to enable them to engage effectively with health and with other service systems.

How we work with young people

The Youth Engagement Service is committed to working with young people and their families/carers to link them to the right support at the right time. We work collaboratively with other services to assist engagement. Our purpose is not to duplicate existing services, however we can provide linkage when there are some barriers. We work with young people who are 12-17 years following an emergency department presentation or a hospital admission. We sometimes also see young people who are at risk of developing mental health concerns, or worsening mental health concerns, if they do not have the right interventions.

Services we provide
  • Support to transition young people into appropriate services
  • Brief Interventions for young people
  • Brief Interventions for family and carers
