When do we refer to another facility?
Non-urgent paediatric referrals to The Maitland Hospital and or John Hunter Hospital usually occur when the Local Medical Officers require a more specialised opinion. Our close relationship with these facilities enables us, with the support of the Patient Flow Unit to make these referrals efficient and beneficial for our paediatric patients.
For urgent paediatric referrals we are supported by the Patient Flow Unit, The Maitland Hospital, John Hunter Children's Hospital and if necessary the Neonatal Emergency Transport Service or the Retrieval Team from John Hunter Children's Hospital.
