Armidale Mothers and Babies Service

 

The services consists of a fulltime Aboriginal Health Education Officer and part time Midwife. 


What services are provided?

The service works with pregnant women who are Aboriginal or partners of Aboriginal men to provide pregnancy care, education and advocacy within the health system and the wider community.

The service partners with Armidale Hospital Maternity Ward and General  Practitioners, as well as a range of government and non-government  groups. Services are provided to clients in Guyra, Uralla and Walcha as well as Armidale. Quit for New Life smoking cessation program is offered to all clients.

During the course of pregnancy, visits to the Labour ward are offered as well as education and preparation for labour, with a flexible approach.

The aim is to provide support and assistance wherever possible to ensure Aboriginal clients are comfortable in the hospital and/or healthcare setting.
