Counselling

 

The Children, Young People and Families Counselling Service provides counselling to individuals, families or small groups about a range of issues that may affect children and their families.

Children, Young People and Families Counsellors provide assistance to children (under 18 years of age) and their families who may be experiencing the following difficulties:

  • Behavioural problems
  • Emotional issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Worries
  • Trauma
  • Parenting issues
  • Adjustment to separation or divorce
  • Conflict in family relationships
  • Sexual orientation/Identity issues

There is no charge for this service.


What services are provided?

The counsellor will discuss your concerns about your child / children and assess your child/children’s and the family’s needs. The counsellor will ask you about any relevant medical or family history  and about your child’s development (eg, at what age your child walked and talked). Following an assessment the counsellor will develop an action plan with you.

This plan may include:

  • Individual counselling appointments for the child and/or their parents
  • Family counselling
  • Group Programs
  • Consultation with other people working with your child
  • Referral to other agencies
