Breastfeeding Your Baby

Breastfeeding is a process of learning for both you and your baby. Our Child and Family Health Nurses, along with our Lactation Consultants, are here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have and can provide any extra support you may need.

Breastfeeding provides all your baby's essential needs for growth, development and protection from illness and disease. It will also satisfy your baby's hunger and thirst, along with bonding for you and your baby.

The following is a range of helpful information on breastfeeding:

  • Telephone advice
  • Lactation clinics – several clinics a week in various clinic locations.
  • Feeding Clinic-Lactation Consultant and Speech therapist via referral.
  • Breastfeeding group – Wallsend - weekly for 2 hours. Starts February 2024.

Please call Maitland Central intake to book in (02) 49 392 675 Monday to Friday 8.30-4pm.

  • Lactation appointments are available at East Maitland Clinic, Beresfield Clinic and Muswellbrook Clinic.
  • If you have birthed at The Maitland Hospital you can access a lactation consultant in the post-natal ward for up to 6 weeks postnatal.
  • Feeding Clinic with Lactation Consultant, Dietitian and speech Therapist -East Maitland Clinic. Via referral.
