Specialist Clinics
Paediatric Outpatient Clinics are held at both John Hunter Children's Hospital (clinics also held on Belmont Campus) and John Hunter Hospital.
The Children's Hospital Outpatient Department is a very busy service that will see approximately 27,000 children a year by 40 different specialists. There are 10 clinic rooms as well as a treatment room for small procedures.
Experienced paediatric nursing staff weigh and measure the height of children/adolescents on arrival and help with any procedures that may be required in the clinic.
A team of specialist doctors, nurses and allied health professionals hold clinics throughout the year. These clinics are often supported by Clinical Nurse Consultants who are specialised in a particular area of paediatrics.

What is the paediatric outpatient service?
Your child can be seen in the paediatric asthma clinic by Bernadette Goddard, a specialist paediatric asthma clinical nurse consultant. Bernadette will assess your child’s asthma control, their treatment plan and discuss any concerns, issues or questions you may have about any aspect of your child’s asthma care.
Who can access the Asthma Education Clinic?
A parent, carer or guardian of a child aged between 0 – 17 who may have asthma or viral induced wheeze (VIW).
How to access this service?
A referral is not necessary. The clinic is located in the Paediatric Outpatient Department, Level 2 at John Hunter Children’s Hospital, Lookout Rd, New Lambton Heights.
The clinic is held on a Monday from 1 – 4pm and the appointments are 3o minutes each. Telehealth appointments are also available if preferred.
