General Paediatrics & Adolescent Medicine

A General Paediatrician is often the first point of contact your child will have with John Hunter Children's Hospital.

Our General Paediatricians care for children and young people from newborn to 18 years of age with acute and chronic medical problems as inpatients and outpatients.

The team includes consultant paediatricians, a Clinical Nurse Consultant, two fellows (senior trainees) and rotating junior medical staff.

The General Paediatric Team aims to provide the children who require our services with the "best care" based on scientific evidence and evaluation of our practices. The service is committed to Closing the Gap and providing great care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as those from culturally and linguistically diverse populations and disadvantaged families.

Services

The General Paediatric Service provides inpatient medical care for sick children with support from nursing staff, allied health staff and the specialist medical and surgical teams, which include Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Neonatal Intensive Care, Paediatric Intensive Care and our Emergency Department.

Outpatient assessment and managemet of common paediatric conditions are also provided at a number of locations, including John Hunter Children's Hospital, Belmont Hospital Paediatric Clinic, Newcastle Community Health Centre and at Raymond Terrace. • Eating disorders
  • Cleft palate
