Nursing Careers at John Hunter Children's Hospital
New Graduate Registered Nurse program
John Hunter Children’s Hospital offers 12 positions to new Graduate Registered Nurses each year. These positions are 12 month contracts, with two six month rotations through specialist paediatric wards. This is a supported program aimed at providing a positive transition from full-time study to full-time employment. This program is supported with study days, clinical supervision, clinically based resources and self-directed learning opportunities.
Transition to Paediatric nursing program
The Paediatric Transition to Specialty Practice program is a structured 12 month program delivered in a supportive environment enabling development of clinical practice in neonatal intensive care, medical, surgical, oncology and adolescent health nursing at John Hunter Children's Hospital and The Maitland Hospital Special Care Nursery. The program has been designed to consolidate learning and experience gained during the new graduate year. This program also makes paediatric nursing accessible to registered nurses who otherwise would not have the opportunity of this experience in a supported environment. The emphasis in the program is placed on clinical practice in relevant clinical areas, while providing the opportunity to consolidate prior knowledge.
